GCash and Filipino Communities Globally Celebrate PH Independence Day

GCash, the leading finance app and largest cashless ecosystem in the Philippines, has introduced new features and a recent partnership with Meridian, enabling transfers from over 12,000 US banks to GCash accounts.

In June, GCash brought the spirit of Filipino independence to overseas Filipino communities. From the bustling streets of New York City to the sunny beaches of California and the cosmopolitan city of Dubai, GCash collaborated with Filipinos abroad to celebrate our cultural heritage and strengthen ties with the homeland.

“Wherever Filipinos gather worldwide to celebrate our independence, GCash is there, equipping our kababayan with financial solutions that bridge distances and connect loved ones,” said Paul Albano, General Manager of GCash International. “Whether it’s facilitating smooth money transfers or providing access to essential financial services, GCash is dedicated to empowering overseas Filipinos to manage their finances and support their families back home.”

At the heart of GCash’s innovative approach is advanced technology that simplifies financial transactions for users worldwide. Through strategic alliances and groundbreaking initiatives, GCash has transformed how Filipinos handle their money, regardless of their location.

In New York City, the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI) hosted its grand Independence Day Parade, now in its 34th year and recognized as the largest Independence Day Parade outside of the Philippines. Amid the vibrant floats and lively performances, GCash demonstrated its commitment to serving Filipinos globally.

Albano unveiled significant updates to the service, including GCash’s availability for download using a US mobile phone number. The app has also streamlined money transfers from over 12,000 US banks to GCash accounts via a convenient new cash-in feature powered by a partnership with Meridian, an instant payments technology company based in New York City.

Upon cash-in from a US bank, the app automatically converts dollars to pesos at a competitive ForEx rate, so GCash users can freely use their funds for direct transfers to other accounts and to pay billers. Each transaction comes with a $1 fee—but, from June 15 to July 30, 2024, this fee is waived for the first two cash-in transactions.

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, the city of Carson, California, was filled with festivities, reflecting the joys of Filipino culture. The community event at Veterans Park resonated with the spirit of celebration and unity. GCash set up booths parallel to the festivities, where attendees learned more about the app’s seamless fintech solutions and its recent partnership with Meridian.
