The eagerly awaited Tubo Cebu Art Fair is back for its 6th edition, this time joining forces with the Cebu Art Book Fair (CABF) to orchestrate an unparalleled celebration of Cebuano artistic talent.

From August 30 to September 1, 2024, Ayala Center Cebu will metamorphose into a dynamic center of artistic expression, spotlighting the finest of Cebu’s visual arts and independent publishing landscapes.

Tubo Cebu Art Fair: Soaring to New Artistic Peaks

Embracing the theme “ASCEND,” Tubo Cebu Art Fair persists in its mission to offer a platform for local artists to soar to new peaks. From its modest inception in 2018 with a mere 30 booths, Tubô has experienced exponential growth, now boasting over 100 booths and more than 600 artists from across the Philippines.

“This year, we urge participating artists to delve into new techniques, materials, and concepts,” states Jay Nathan Jore, Fair Curator. “We promote experimentation and the incorporation of new media and technology in their creative endeavors.”

Attendees can anticipate immersing themselves in a diverse array of art forms, ranging from contemporary paintings and sculptures to mixed media installations and digital art. Interactive workshops and artist discussions will offer glimpses into the creative processes underpinning the artwork, with distinguished Filipino artist Emmanuel Garibay among the highlighted speakers.

To underscore the collaborative and community-focused spirit of Tubô Cebu Art Fair, the Image of the Fair was initiated, uniting senior artists and budding young talents on a single canvas. This collective work aligns with the theme of the year’s art fair and serves as the focal point of the various fair exhibitions.

Furthermore, a unique installation by renowned contemporary artist Mark Salvatus is anticipated to captivate viewers with a multisensory experience.

In addition to showcasing a broad spectrum of regional artists and groups, Tubô Cebu Art Fair 2024 also features a specially curated Signature Collection, presenting exceptional one-of-a-kind pieces from respected artists led by Romulo Galicano.

Also worth noting are the screenings of the winning short films from CITU’s Camvas Film Competition and the performances by Cebu Pop Music icons, Lourdes and Jerika Teororico, who have earned acclaim for their distinctive sound and mesmerizing performances.

Cebu Art Book Fair: Empowering the Art of Self-Publishing

Returning for its third edition, CABF illuminates young creators, offering a unique emphasis on self-publishing culture.

CABF will commence on August 31 at Level 1 of Ayala Center Cebu, to share the practice of crafting and distributing zines, art books, independent magazines, and other methods of storytelling and idea dissemination through do-it-yourself techniques.

Established in 2022 by designer Marc Abuan and local design studio Happy Garaje, CABF has rapidly become a mainstay in the Cebu art scene.

This year’s event will feature over 20 booths and 30 artists, with notable participants like National Book Awardee Rob Cham and emerging design studios Eclectic Haus and Sagedvice Studio. Highlights include a forum with Dapat Studio and a zine-sharing session with South Korean design studio Supersonic Studio.

The fair’s program also includes a poster show at Atua Midtown titled “Maayong Bungkag,” along with a series of talks and workshops designed to foster creativity and exchange ideas.

A Must-See Cultural Spectacle

The collaboration between Tubô Cebu Art Fair and CABF signifies a pivotal moment in Cebu’s art community, offering visitors a chance to delve into the city’s rich creative landscape. Both events are supported by the Cebu City Government as part of its Arts Month celebration.

From traditional visual arts to innovative independent publishing, this combined event promises to be a sensory feast and a testament to Cebu’s rising artistic prowess.
