KNOWN for their squeaky clean image and wholesome reputation, McFly have endured a week like they've never seen before.

This week The Sun revealed how McFly singer Danny Jones was seen having a "drunken snog" with Maura Higgins – but this isn't the first time the band have faced a "tough time".

Over the years, McFly have cemented themselves into the hearts of the nation and become a household name in the process.

As well of their music, the fab four – made up of Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter, and Harry Judd – have all forged impressive TV careers.

However, the aftermath of one of the band members actions may have rocked the boat, and in the process has left another McFly star feeling "uncomfortable".

Last weekend, married Danny was seen having a brief "boozy kiss" with his I'm A Celebrity co-star Maura Higgins as they partied into the early hours of the morning after the Brit Awards.

Singer Tom, who went along with Danny to the music event last Saturday, is said to be "humiliated" after being unnecessarily caught up in the drama.

A source said: "Tom is by no means a party animal – in fact he made it quite clear the afterparty was not on his mind, but Danny had other ideas.

"Tom wasn't there when the pair were seen getting close, but feels he is still associated with what went on.

"He doesn't even know Maura, he doesn't follow her or any other Love Island stars – he just doesn't really mix in those circles."

This tension in the group isn't the first time the band have faced a tough time in the 22 years they have been together.

MCFYING HIGH

After bursting onto the scene in 2003, McFly have continued to be the gift that keeps on giving for pop fans.

Harry, Danny, Tom, and Dougie were all teenagers when they formed the band.

They had an instant fan group as they became the perfect replacement for Busted – who originally disbanded in 2004.

McFly popped out tune after tune, with songs like Obviously, Five Colours In Her Hair, and of course the catchy hit, It's All About You.

As the hits kept coming, their fan base grew and the demand for the group reached an all time peak in the late noughties.

FEELING 'BROKEN'

After years of consent touring, recording new music – and even teaming up with Busted for the supergroup McBusted – McFly suddenly found themselves "broken".

It was at this point they decided to take a hiatus around 2016, as they gathered their thoughts and could start afresh.

However, McFly's plans to reunite the following year were thwarted by inter-band tensions.

Opening up about this "complicated" time, Harry told The Sun in 2020: "We have all been through a lot individually in the past four years.

I think there's been moments if I'm honest where each of us have done things that we've all found really difficult.

Harry Judd

"We'd seen each other broken, desperate and sorry enough to each other to be like, 'Right, OK, we can move on now.'

"It's not just like a married couple.

"There's four of us, so there's a relationship between each and every single person. It's a complicated thing."

JEALOUSY WITHIN THE BAND

During their hiatus, the boys all started working on their own solo projects, which caused "jealousy" between them.

At the time, Tom had become a children's author, Danny had joined the panel of The Voice Kids, Dougie was an environmental campaigner, while Harry had been performing in the West End in Rip It Up.

Speaking about the tension at this time within the group, Harry told us: "There was a bit of jealousy creeping in, I think with people doing their own thing, like, 'What's he doing? Why's he doing that? Why aren't we talking about McFly?'

"I think there's been moments if I'm honest where each of us have done things that we've all found really difficult.

Becoming McBusted also brought some 'tension' withing the band[/caption]

"I know I did a show with Tom, and Dougie and Danny came to watch, and they were like, 'That sucks that you two are doing that.' And then I went to watch Danny's show and I was like, 'I'm kind of happy for you but that sucks.'"

Harry also revealed how teaming up with Busted for McBusted also took it's toll on McFly.

"The dynamic of McBusted changed things a bit – two great guys joined the band for a bit, but the friendships were shifting and things were a bit weird," he told The Sun.

We were this solid band, like brothers, and suddenly we weren't even really talking.

Harry Judd

"There was unspoken tension, no one dealt with it and the issues got bigger and bigger.

"It was literally like, how has this happened?

"We had always taken such pride in our friendship of McFly and it was seemingly starting to crack.

TROUBLE 'COMMUNICATING'

Danny once revealed how the band could be "terrible" when it came "communicating".

It came when he was asked in 2019 if McFly were "feuding", and that was why they hadn't released any music for a while at this point.

Denying this was the problem, he told Digital Spy: "We're (just) terrible at communicating.

"We're like 'let's do the band' and then a year later we go 'we should do the band then.'

"A year later, we're like, 'when are we going to write' but our management is getting us in to gear now and is on top of it all and come up with a plan."

GROUP THERAPY

After their hiatus, and also feeling "broken" as a band, McFly decided to give group therapy a go.

The foursome sought professional help, in a bid to work through their issues.

Speaking about the problems they faced at the time, Harry told the i newspaper: "We all had different ways of communicating. Dougie and Danny hate confrontation.

"So it creates problems and resentment. And people can be too controlling.

"All these layers build up. It's men not talking, really."

When asked what their group therapy was like, he admitted: "S***."

Danny said about the counselling sessions: "I think all that did for us was create a safe space to say hard things.

"But it's like a marriage. You're together for ever, right? And a one-year blip in 20 years is absolutely nothing."
